![]() Both of these launchers have an Artemis IV FCS. The right torso has an SRM-4 while the left torso carries an LRM-10. A Gauss rifle is mounted in the right arm while the left arm has an ER Large Laser and ER Medium Laser. Alternate Configuration B This configuration is a low-heat high damage option for pilots. It keeps the same number of double heat sinks as the primary configuration, but relocates them across the torso. Alternate Configuration A The most common alternate configuration in the Woodsman's long career mounted two ER PPCs, two Medium Pulse Lasers, and a Large Pulse Laser and ER Small Laser for backup. The Naga's dual Arrow IV launcher configuration, for example, was tested on the Woodsman chassis. The Woodsman was so versatile that it was often used by Wolf scientists to test new weapons and weapon configurations. Five additional pod mounted double heat sinks brought the total up to seventeen, allowing the Woodsman to fire most of its weaponry without worrying about heat overloads. To provide anti-infantry capability, a pair of Machine Guns were mounted in the center torso. Each arm carried an ER Large Laser and an ER Medium Laser, and a pair of LRM-15s rounded out the configuration in each side torso. The primary Woodsman configuration would be mirrored in the default Timber Wolf weapon load. In 3149 the Woodsman was returned to production in the Wolf Empire to quickly rebuild the touman. There are some rumors that a few Dark Caste bandits may have a Woodsman, but these reports remain unconfirmed. The Woodsman was relegated to second-line units, and then eventually phased out of service completely by the time of Operation Revival. Though it served the Wolf Clan well, it was eventually surpassed by newer designs. The permanently installed MASC system allowed a pilot to briefly exceed 80 km/h to either withdraw or capitalize on breaches in enemy ranks. The light Endo Steel chassis allowed the Woodsman to devote 27 tons to pod space, allowing many mission specific loadouts and prototype weapon configurations. Heavy armor provided excellent protection, while a standard fusion engine improved longevity on the battlefield. This resulted in a chassis that would not only function well in the Clan's front line forces for nearly a century, but also inspire the Timber Wolf, Gargoyle, and Naga OmniMechs. Every last detail was considered and problems were eliminated before production began. Inner Sphere identification systems thus either render it as MAD/CAT or blink between the MAD and CAT designations on tactical displays. The first heavy OmniMech developed by Clan Wolf, the Woodsman was one of the most heavily tested weapons ever produced by the Clan. This is due to it's superficial similarities to the Marauder (abbreviated MAD), and the Catapult (abbreviated CAT). ![]() Within the Inner Sphere it is know as the MADCAT.In most sources, the Timber Wolf is always a 75 ton heavy 'Mech, but in MechAssault it appears as a 100 ton assault 'Mech. The sight of one of these 'mechs on a battlefield sends shivers even to the most experienced Atlas pilots. The Timber Wolf is able to outgun many IS Assault Class 'mechs. However to simply classify it as fire-support would be to overlook the massive PPCs and laser reserves it contains. The Timber Wolf is able to fill the role of a long-range support 'mech due to its heavy LRM-20s. In the Inner Spherem, a Timber Wolf D is in the possession of Comacho's Cabelleros formerly the personal 'mech of Colonel Don Carlos Comacho, it now belongs to Kali "Lady K" MacDougal. Other pilots include Khan Phelan Kell of Clan Wolf in Exile, Aiden Pryde, also known as the Jade Phoenix, who dies at the battle of Tukkayid whilst defending the fallen mech of his freeborn daughter, Diana. At the helm of his Timber Wolf he will no doubt add to the legend and mystique of this remarkable Clan design. In the Battletech timeline, Khan Vladimir Ward of Clan Wolf currently stands poised to strike back into the Lyran Alliance and Arc-Royal Defence Cordon as a Crusader Clan waiting for the chance to breach the permanent ceasefire with the Inner Sphere. Timber Wolves have been piloted by numerous legendary MechWarriors. The Timber Wolf boasts an impressive balance of weaponry which gives it considerable firepower at all ranges. Its distinctive design has become emblematic of the MechWarrior series and the BattleTech universe in general. The 75-ton Timber Wolf ( IS: Madcat) is a powerful and deadly OmniMech fielded by the Clans.
